Antonio Talens Taberna, Jr., also known as Anthony Taberna or Ka Tunying, is a broadcast journalist and radio commentator at ABS-CBN, where he has hosted television and radio programs covering news and public affairs. Busy aside from being just your typical broadcaster and journalist, he is managing his own businesses as well.
If we recall back on an incident that occurred on August 28, 2015, at around 2 a.m., his coffee shop located along Visayas Avenue was ambushed by gunmen. No one was hurt from the incident but authorities indicated that Anthony’s job as a broadcaster might have been a reason why the establishment was targeted.
Now recently in a report by ABS-CBN News, Anthony shared to everyone that it has always been his dream to run restaurants of his own. In fact the broadcaster has been managing his own food establishment called Ka Tunying’s in Nueva Ecija since 2002. It was initially a community bake shop that eventually grew into a Filipino comfort food restaurant.
In fact, Anthony revealed that he has three thriving branches in the city of Manila. He shared, “It’s a fallback for me. this career of mine won’t be forever. Baka ngayon may natutuwa pa sa akin, pero bukas wala na. This business will help provide for my family.”
Anthony also revealed that one branch of Ka Tunying’s branch is located right in front of GMA Network, which became very controversial with the location placing and explained that it was not at all intentional at all because originally he wanted to open the branch in walking distance to ABS-CBN but unfortunately, he couldn’t find a spot.
Therefore the restaurant ended up near GMA Network, which was just a few minutes away via transportation. Anthony shared, he would really love to place his restaurant near ABS but unfortunately there was no place so they had to look for another. In a separate report made by ABS-CBN Push, Anthony revealed that it was his wife Rossel Taberna, who was actually the one who is handling their business. According to him, being on television is not a long term job and maybe suddenly one day people will grew tired of him so he has back ip plans like owning businesses like this. He also revealed that he is open to allowing Ka Tunying be franchised and is thinking of new ventures to explore for future purposes.
