This August 13, the Star Magic male artists gathered together at the big dome last Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The all famous All-Star basketball game presented by ABS-CBN Events and Star Events features an exhibition game with Star Magic male artists led by team captains Gerald Anderson (on blue jersey) and Daniel Padilla (on red jersey). The game was co-presented by this year's primary sponsor Oppo.
Team Daniel, for this year, consists of Zanjoe Marudo, Joseph Marco, Ronnie Alonte, Vin Abrenica, Zeus Collins, Anjo Damiles, Marco Gumabao, Patrick Sugui, Jon Lucas, Paolo Angeles, and Axel Torres. Meanwhile for Team Gerald, he has Rayver Cruz, JC de Vera, Ejay Falcon, Jason Abalos, Matt Evans, Diego Loyzaga, Miko Raval, Young JV Kapunan, Jimboy Martin, Gerhard Acao, and Joe Vargas. While Team Daniel won the game at 96-93 and Axel Torres bagged the MVP award at last year's game, this year Team Gerald came back and won with a score of 93-90. This time the team captain of the blue which is Gerald Anderson, took home the Most Valuable Player award.
However, the game that was supposed to be fun and all hoops clash became a personal clash as Daniel Padilla and JC De Vera turned the sporty table around and got into a fight when the latter fouled Daniel during the third quarter. The video of the game has gone viral over night. On the video, you can see JC with the ball about to inbound with Daniel on the defense. However, when JC turned around, he allegedly pushed Daniel so the teen king cam tumbling down.
The teen king was not able to contain his temper and seemed to confront JC about it. JC was just smiling and raising both his hands as if saying he did not mean anything. The referees went inside the court to lessen the tension. The crowd can be heard chanting “DJ” which signified their support for the teen king. Meanwhile it seems that not only DJ was affected, according to MJ Felipe, Karla Estrada was quick to defend her son as she was caught shouting and pointing at JC. Gerald did his part and tried to calm the queen mother down.
However Karla also said that situations like that are normal at physical games like basketball. She just told her son to calm down and simply play the game. Gerald Anderson also said that it just shows how passionate everyone is about the game and maybe that is the reason for the tension. Meanwhile, the teen king Daniel, who got personally involved in the misunderstanding also said that in a basketball game, there will be times that emotions will take over. However he also said that after resolving it, things went good after and him and JC are in good terms.
