
Nationwide smoking ban will be implemented on July 23, 2017, Sunday. President Rodrigo Duterte signed an executive order regarding the ban of smoking in public places nationwide.
This was confirmed las May 18, 2017 where Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial confirmed that the president signed the executive order last May 16, 2017. The Executive Order 27 was made in time for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day on May 31.
The EO No. 26 titled “Providing for the establishment of smoke-free environments in public and enclosed spaces,” listed as a prohibited act smoking in “enclosed public spaces and public conveyances, whether stationary or in motion, except in DSA (designated smoking areas).”
The President encourages local authorities and officials of establishments and companies to discourage everyone to smoke because they will be held liable for their subordinates actions according to the Executive Order that will be implemented nationwide.
There will be DSA or Designated Areas for Smoking for those who would like to smoke in either designated open areas or separate area with ventilation. According to Section 2 of the said EO, the order shall apply to all persons, whether resident or not, and in all places, found within the territorial jurisdiction of the Philippines.
Hopefully the implementation of this EO will be executed properly so that there will be efficient and effective results for the benefit of everyone.
