The passengers of an aircraft were terrified specifically riding the twin-aisle Airbus A330-300 aircraft, when they experienced very violent shaking on this AirAsia X flight from Perth, Australia to Malaysia. The frightened passengers stated that they heard a loud commotion which was followed by an intense turbulence which rocked the entire cabin that caused the sudden panic. Damien Stevens and friend Mitch Jamieson were one of the passengers on the said airline, in which they were making their way to Myanmar for a holiday.
According to a report done by CNN with Stevens, he was asked to recall the incident where he stated that as they were asleep, they suddenly heard a loud sound which caused an alarming sound that lasted for around an 1-hour-and-15-minutes. He also said that due to the turbulence it was the cause for the plane to shook for the whole ride back for about two hours. The passenger Stevens, was actually referring to the forced return trip of the plane after the shaking began. According to sources, it was still unclear on what could have been the cause of the technical issue according to the plane’s Rolls-Royce engines. If ever there was any imbalance inside a rapidly-spinning jet engine then it could cause turbulence which would be felt throughout the aircraft.
The aircraft had to return to Australia to ensure the safety of the passengers. The flight was indeed very shaky and frightening according to passenger Stevens. They also heard the pilot ask them to pray twice and instructed all the passengers to hold “the brace position” for about two minutes during the landing to ensure the safety of everyone. According to Steven, the plane however landed smoothly and where everyone applauded as they landed safely because of the captain. Steven recalls and praised the pilot, where the pilot shook his with everyone after the flight was over.
Some of the passengers posted on social media about their horrifying experience that they experienced had during Flight D7237. AirAsia X Berhad confirmed that the events in a statement that the Flight D7237 bound for Kuala Lumpur took off at 6:40 AM local time with 359 passengers on board and landed back at Perth Airport safely before 10 PM.According to them, the pilot identified a technical issue with the engine, where he immediately turned the plane around and safely landed back at Perth Airport because above all, the safety of our guests is their utmost priority.
That recent incident marks the second significant incident involving the jet’s Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine this month and the third since May. Fortunately it appears that incident may not be related to the previous issues that happened in the past. According to photos that were taken of the engine, the external structure of the engine nacelle or known as the cover around the turbine blades was undamaged making them still unaware of the reason. However they say that they are very much aware of what happened in the incident and they will be working closely with relevant partners to understand the cause of the issue.
