As time goes by and changes are contstant everywhere, more and more contemporary romance flicks are dominating the Philippine cinemas which are definitely a constant work for everyone. It is thanks to the large part of independent film production companies who produce gems such as “I’m Drunk, I Love You,” “Ang Kwento Nating Dalawa,” “Sana Dati,” “Sleepless,” and many more, that the open-minded movies to help mold people are now rising.
That is why one of the most recent indie film that is dominating the box office charts is “Kita Kita." The romantic, independently-produced film is currently being talked about by many movie enthusiasts and numerous hopeless romantics are definitely in love with "Kita Kita” which was written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo.
According to a report done by Philippine Entertainment Portal, the stars of the fil Alessandra de Rossi as (Lea) and Empoy Marquez as (Tonyo), in which two individuals fall in love with each other during the time that they spent in Japan – more specifically, in Sapporo. However, it was not just the setting that made them fall in love with each other, it was actually how Tonyo teaches Lea to be more open towards new experiences and to heal herself after being emotionally pained by her Japanese ex-boyfriend.
The film “Kita Kita” did in fact hit the audiences in the right feels and places, because of its unconventional storytelling and non-traditional casting choice, a lot of fans praised the casual and natural way that the two characters, Tonyo and Lea developed feelings for each other as the film’s narrative progressed in to a much deeper value.
Viewers felt that the film portrayed a realistic romance that could potentially happen to anyone, especially to those who feel like they don’t have any more chances at love due to external forces beyond their control. With that, according to a source that the film has been able to reach the ₱300 million mark. Erickson Raymundo, one of the pioneers of Spring Films, said that “Kita Kita” is now considered the “highest grossing indie film in the country.” Before “Kita Kita” broke the record, Jerrold Tarog’s “Heneral Luna” held the title, with a total earnings of ₱257 million. Raymundo shared that he initially thought the movie would only earn around ₱60-80 million. Today, “Kita Kita” continues to break the record and people are still in the hype for the film.
