Raffy Tulfo is a broadcast journalist whose work focuses on government and private sector issues. Tulfo has a weekday afternoon radio program entitled, Wanted sa Radyo, on Radyo5 92.3 News FM with Niña Taduran. In the recent episode of his radio show, a a man from the city of Ormoc complained and voiced out his concern over the large number of flies in their area caused by a poultry business.
According to the compliant, the flies that were pestering the town was because the poultry business which was owned by the former mayor of Ormoc. Now Raffy Tulfo immediately brought himself and said to the man that their current mayor, Richard Gomez, is on the line to listen to his complain. The man then continued to tell the situation that theflies were bothering not only his family but all who live in their barangay as well which is definitely affecting the living condition of the people and re worried fir their health.
According ti the inspection conducted by the city’s health office and ENRD, they revealed that the chicken carcasses of the said poultry business were being thrown into the bodies of water. They are not only affecting the locals but are polluting the environment as well. The local government has already given the poultry business came a warning and are very aware of the agony and disturbance that the poultry business is doing.
Tulfo then talked to Mayor Gonez and asked the details regarding the matter. The mayor of Ormoc replied that he had already asked their environmental and health offices to go to that place and inspect on what has to be done. According to the findings, the business’ facilities did not pass the sanitary standards imposed by the local government, where they issued a warning and issued a report to the regional office immediately. He also met with his council regarding an upgrade of their local ordinances and are definitely doing something to solve the problem.
The radio host goes back to the issue of dumping of carcasses on water. Tulfo asked if this case of dumping the carcasses can be considered as grounds to close down the business, where Mayor Richard immediately said that he has taken the recommendations of ENRD and their health office regarding the matter. The Mayor also said that as soon as they end the conversation they are having on the show, he will call once again ENRD and ask the status of the poultry business and if he finds out that they are still running it like this, he will have it shut down on Monday.
The complainant was satisfied by the fast decision and is very thankful to city's mayor for having such a quick response to the concerned matter that was pestering his city's citizen. According to Mayor Richard Gomez, he has already allotted seven million pesos to fund the fixing of the barangay’s roads, which was also a quick resolution to the matter.
