After losing to Australian boxer Jeff Horn, Manny Pacquaio will have a chance to avenge his loss.
This sunday morning at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane Australia, Horn defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision, Waleska Roldan, (117-111); Chris Flores, (115-113); and Ramon Cerdan, (115-113) to become the WBO Welterweight champion.
But according to CompuBox stats, Pacquaio connected on 182 of 573 punches for 32%. While Horn only landed 92 of 625 punches for 15%.
Jeff came out aggressive on the first few rounds, something that Manny didn’t seem to expect but for the next rounds Manny was getting comfortable and gave Horn a hard time. During the fight Pacquaio seemed to be landing the clearer shots, but Horn earned the credits.
Despite that loss Manny accepted the result and left us with a positive statement, “That’s the decision of the judges. I respect that.”
Filipino fans were disappointed about the results and posted on social media their support and love for Manny Pacquaio;
“Pacquaio played it clean and honest. I was shocked by the decision. Don’t know what happened. I can’t explain it to you either. It was a good fight for both though but Horn used some dirty tricks.”
“Decisions of the judges were final.. Best thing is to have a rematch. And the only way to prove to the judges that Manny is still pound for pound is to get a clear knock out…”
“Easy.. the only explanation there is..T’was already cooke match.. While the Fighting is still going on there was a Winner already. hahah you can see it by the body language of the referee. Unbelievable.”
Even Jason Mclntyre of Fox Sports 1 was among who felt the decision was unfair:
He twitted: “Manny Pacquaio losing is why boxing is such a joke. How can people take this sport seriously anymore? Jeff Horn did not win that, sorry.”
The decision may have been in favor for Horn,but Manny remains to be the People’s Champion. As reported there is a rematch clause in the contract in the event of Horn winning. The fans are still there to support Manny and are looking forward to the rematch.
Congratulations to Horn and the Filipino people are still proud of you Manny Pacman Pacquaio!
