RED alert is raised in Sarangani City after the province was hit by a 7.2 earthquake this morning Sunday April 29 2017 at 8 am. Phivolcs said that the earthquake with a tectonic origin was registered at 4:23am with 57 kilometers depth and 53 kilometers southwest of Sarangani Davao Occidental.
Two people was hurt after the incident and a lot of structures were damaged including a police station, Pepsi warehouse and municipal hall.
The province’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management stated that they recorded 7 aftershocks and residents in the area is evacuated in case of tsunami.
Phivolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) stated that the coastal areas in the Philippine provinces fronting Celebes Sea are expected to experience wave heights less than one meter above the normal tide level.
Townspeople near coastal areas are ordered to be evacuated incase of tsunami, here are some locations where earthquakes are registered:
Intensity II - kidapawan
Intensity III – Cagayan de oro, Cotabato city
Intensity IV – Davao , Cotabato, Zamboanga
Intensity V - General Santos City; Koronadal City; Santa Maria, Jose Abad Santos, Don Marcelino, Balot Island.
Intensity V - Davao Occidental; Polomolok, Tupi, South Cotabato; Alabel, Malapatan, Glan, Sarangani; Palimbag, Sultan Kudarat.
The government urge everyone to stay calm and be observant for any calamity that might happen.
